This is an extremely rare opportunity to own a truly exquisite aberration. This Morpho has been identified using Bernard d'Abrera's taxa which was published in his Morphidae series. In other texts, this species has been called the nominate. I tend to support the classification of Mr. d'Abrera which is why it is identified as M. d. hermione.

Please note the jagged wing pattern on the recto side. The blue should be uniformly spread like the normal specimens from this area. But it isn't. The underside is where the aberration is really noticeable. The array of markings and coloration is completely atypical from the norm.

I have had some entomologists suggest from photographic examination that this specimen may indeed be a hybrid of Morpho achilles achilles and Morpho deidamia hermione. They cited that the wing shape is that of M. a. achilles while the traits are of both species. I have decided to go with initial suspicions that this is an aberrant of M. deidamia hermione. But this topic is so contentious that a definitive conclusion has not been achieved.
